As Sheriff of Shenandoah County, I am charged with protecting over 512 sq miles and approximately 41,252 people in this county. This bread basket of Virginia is also my home and I enjoy the opportunity to serve my fellow neighbors and make new friends whenever I can. Sheriff's Office Investigators acknowledged at a ceremony for investigation of a gang assault case by Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II.

Deputy Jonathan Treese (above from left- Group photo, Sheriff Carter adding comments with Senator Mark Obenshaine and the Old Dominion district coordinator during award recognition,  Deputy Treese sitting with his wife and mother) was recently recognized by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) in Harrisonburg at a luncheon. Deputy Treese was recognized along with three other law enforcement officers from Shenandoah County for their work keeping drunk drivers off the streets.

 





 
 


Concealed Weapon Permit: Training Classes will be hosted by the Sheriff's Office to provide instruction on the safety of firearms and laws related to carry concealed permit users. This class is for basic safety only. The class is free and registration is through our partners at Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation. You can find dates and locations this fall here..
