Timothy C. Carter
Sheriff
Tim is the Sheriff of
Shenandoah County. This is his second term. Previously he served for
eight years as our Chief Deputy with the Shenandoah County Sheriff's
Office.
Tim graduated with a
Bachelors of Science in Economics from JMU in 1985 and a Masters of
Education in Counseling Psychology from JMU in 1994. Tim is also a
graduate of the 202nd Session of the FBI's National Academy of Law
Enforcement administrators. He completed police management training at
the University of Louisville's Southern Police Institute. He has
extensive training in Law Enforcement personnel management, budget and
finance, and critical incident management.
Tim serves on the Executive
Board of the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy which
serves law enforcement agencies in our area. He also serves on the
Command Board of the North Western Regional Drug Task Force. He is a
member of the Virginia Sheriff's Association, and the FBI National
Academy Association.
Tim is a member of the Valley
Baptist Church in Edinburg. He is a member and past President of the
Woodstock Rotary and member of Basye-Bryce Mountain Lions Club. He is a
member of the Board of Directors and past Vice-President of Response,
Inc.; our county's shelter for victims of domestic violence. He is a
former member of the Board of Directors of the Youth for Christ. He is
very active and volunteers in other charitable and community service
organizations.
He is married to Karen
Carter, formerly Karen Rhodes of Maurertown and has a daughter, Mona.
They live outside of Maurertown.
