Education and program information 

The Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office provides many services to educate and train the public on safety and the prevention of crime. 

What is Crime Prevention?

The effort to educate citizens of ways to reduce criminal influences to them or property. The Sheriff's Office has several outreach programs and one of the most notable is its Neighborhood Watch Program (NHW). Patrol Division supervisors will go with the NHW coordinator to meetings and listen to community concerns if any. The meetings will share call data to the members and present programs that include drug trend updates, game and inland fisheries officers - animal matters, and much more.

Project Lifesaver

Bringing your loved ones home

Project Lifesaver is a program that puts a transmitter on a person who is at risk of wandering or becoming lost. this program originally started for seniors who had dementia the program quickly be came a lifeline for the autism population. Youth Leadership Camp

Prepairing todays youth to be future leaders

The Sheriff's Office offers a week long leadership camp for middle school aged students. The overnight camp has the run of the mill camp activities like pool and hikes, but SCSO staff run the intense sessions on leadership, bulling,  and effective relationships. The SCSO also demos the Crime scene team, SWAT, and Search and Rescue. This is not a high risk camp and uses school staff to recommend students who already show good leadership skills. more info

Handgun Safety

The SCSO offers a class that can be used to apply for a concealed carry permit. The Sheriff's Office has processed thousands of background checks and supports citizens rights to posses and carry firearms. link to register for class 

Drug Dump

The SCSO participates in the national drug take back operations but saw a need for a dump location year round. Working with a vendor in town we secured a grant for a drug box in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office that is open 24hrs a day. (please no liquids, needles)
