Class Action is a law-related educational program facilitated exclusively by law enforcement professionals for our school children. Class Action provides a basic understanding of state law that governs socially acceptable behavior in the home, in school, and in the community for middle and high school students and their parents. By educating our students about citizenship and the short and long term consequences of unlawful behaviors, we reduce crime, violence and substance abuse in Virginia.

Class Action provides character education and teaches children their rights and responsibilities as citizens of the Commonwealth. Children are encouraged to care about the quality of life in their schools, their homes, and their communities.

Class Action:  Gang Prevention and Education Program

The Gang Education and Prevention Program is a separate and voluntary component of the current Class Action model. The current phase of the program includes a K-2 model which serves as a "get acquainted" lesson for the young students and introduces them to the law and law enforcement. The upper elementary (grades 4-5) and the middle school programs focus on gang recognition and prevention tips, new gang legislation and decision making skills.

Kindergarten – Second Grade: This program features an introductory model entitled, “Rules, Laws and Consequences.” Law enforcement officers will use colorful posters to engage the children in an interactive dialogue involving: rules at home, school, and in the community; the definition of “law”;  enforcement of consequences; and decision-making skills.

Elementary School: This program is entitled, “Gangs in Virginia: Your Friends, Your Choices.” Gang scenarios are incorporated into an interactive classroom format in order to teach the serious consequences of gang involvement. These scenarios also provide information about: how to identify & resist gangs; Virginia’s gang legislation; new legislation related to gangs & gang activity; decision-making skills.

Middle and High School: The program is also entitled, “Gangs in Virginia: Your Friends, Your Choices.” This program focuses on the following topics: gang recognition and prevention; the legal definition of a gang; consequences of gang related activity in Virginia; decision-making skills. This program will feature interactive instructor/student  reality-based scenarios.

Parent/Teacher:  This program is a resource for parents and teachers on recognizing and helping prevent gang involvement among their children and students.  This program focuses on the warning signs of gang involvement and provides tips for preventing gang involvement.  It also includes facts about gangs
